Amiodarone
Han Sang-Jin

Abstract
Amiodarone is a potent antiarrhythmic drug used to treat ventricular and supraventricular tachyarrhythmias. It is a complex antiarrhythmic agent with multiple electrophysiological effects, unusual pharmacokinetics, and numerous potentially harmful drug interactions and adverse effects. When long-term amiodarone therapy is used, its potential toxicity and drug interactions must be considered. The dosage of amiodarone should be kept at the lowest possible effective level. Laboratory studies to monitor liver and thyroid function should be performed at least every 6 months.
